Ode to the 30's BOM

I've joined some of the women in my quilt guild in doing a BOM of the quilt Ode to the 30's designed by Lori Smith.  It is a beautiful sampler.  In our guild, we are doing just 12 of the blocks, but I do hope to finish the whole thing.

My first blocks

You can see this is where I really started doing the flying geese.  I was getting it down on this one.  This is also the first time I've used 30's reproductions, so I'm having to buy some all the time as I don't have any in my stash (til now that is)

January
My woes on the flying geese started here.  I tried the half square triangle  method but went back to Eleanor Burns way of doing it.  I love the lavender.  I'm pretty much copying the colors on the original because I like the feel of the original.

February
I still had woes on the block this month. I put wrong side to right side and didn't catch it til after I had made the diagonal cut.  That means you have to make a new piece. Or rip and sew to the other side.  I also cut some too small.  Then you really have to make a new piece.
I was also having color problems on this one.  A friend in the guild let me go through her stash and see if she had something that worked better.  She did.  One thing about working on it with others is that you can get help and also see what different fabrics look like in the quilt.

March
The backgrounds don't look quite white because they are laid on wood, and the wood in back does come through the white.

  2. I love these!!

Every year my friend and I are supposed to start this and every year we put it off because we are too busy. This is going to be so fabulous.
