Hawaiian Breadfruit Wallhanging

Finished is my newest Hawaiian wallhanging.  It is the breadfruit.  That is a fruit from a tree that in the past gave food for the Hawaiians to keep them alive.
I made this to go in my family room with our new furniture.

It is hand appliqued and machine quilted.

New furniture, pillows and rug.  Now a new wallhanging.

Knitted Boy Layette

I am going to have two new grandbabies in the next few months and right now I'm having fun with it.  I am going to knit a lot of newborn items and be ready for boys and girls.  We'll have to see what I have.
My first project is a baby boy layette.  When my older children were babies I bought a Pingouin knitting book and that's when I started knitting.  It didn't last long and I didn't get too much done because I was busy raising small children and that takes a lot of time.  Now as a grandma, I find a lot more time to knit.
This outfit is from that book.
First came the romper.
I saw this striped pattern in another pattern that I had pinned and used it instead of the normal even striping.

I knitted these with a Drops Fabel yarn.  I wasn't happy with how soft the yarn was not, so when I blocked the items, I soaked them in a little hair conditioner.  That really helped.

Then I knitted this sweater.  The back crosses over the front and makes for an easy on-off dressing time.

These are the socks with the pattern.  They seemed like they were way to large.

So I knitted these from another pattern and they seem like they will hardly fit a newborn, they are so small.

So I will give the baby both and see what happens.
The whole layette

Sheri's Quilts

She brought me 2 quilts recently.  This first one is for a baby.

I quilted rather loose swirls all over it.

This quilt is larger and has rather fun colors.

I used a black and white vaiegated thread and quilted a swirl pattern that matched one of the fabrics that she used in the quilt.

Vintage Children Quilt

My sister sent me some really nice vintage children fabric.  Lots of it.  I love getting that kind of fabric.  Sometimes it takes me a while to figure out how to use it, but this didn't take long.
I cut some of it into squares for a baby quilt.
The pink and blue is the alternating square I am using with it.

I put the quilt into EQ6 but I sometimes have problem making my exact block.  I lose lines or I gain lines I don't want.  So I decided not to mess that way and just imported a block that was very similar to what I wanted and colored it.  Then I printed it and cut it out.  From that I decided on the sizes of cuts I would need from my fabrics.

Here are the cut fabrics.

Now for sewing them together. I will show the pictures in the order that I sewed the seams.

You can see I have a bias problem.  So I am trimming off the curved edge and my square may not look quite right when putting them all together.  At least the baby that receives this quilt will not care.

Tomorrow's job is to finish sewing the corner triangles on and then I can put the squares together.  Come back soon to see it come together.

Birthday Gifts

I've been at it making more toys again.  These are birthday gifts for little friends.
Josh's mom asked me to make him some jellyfish as that seems to be what he likes.
Josh us a 3 yr old Seahawks fan.

I bought this pattern.  Since then I found many free patterns that could have been had.

I teach a little kindergarten class of 4 little girls.  Norah just had a birthday and I made her this kitty.
I ran out of pink yarn, so she has short arms and gray on her skirt.

She is quite tall at about 15"

She looks like a doll that Norah would like.
This is a free pattern.

We inherited a puppy that Eloise's daddy doesn't like having around.  He barks and breathes and wags it's tail, so we inherited it.  That little puppy needed bones so we'll just say that those are his birthday present.

These are made from felt and very easy to do.

 I think puppy likes them.

Hawaiian Breadfruit Wallhanging

I have a blank space on a wall that I usually have always hung a Hawaiian wallhanging.  The other pictures in the room are mostly Hawaiian and so that is why I like that theme in the room. For some reason, whatever was last there, is gone.  Now we've changed the rug and furniture in the room so we actually have a color scheme now.  Yellow walls, gray rug and furniture with curtains and pillows having touches of yellow and dark blue.  So this is what I have come up with.

I don't remember where I got the pattern as I cut it out quite a while ago. I have books. I was also given lots of patterns and I have a Hawaiian quilt pinterest board.  So it could be any of those.  I did have to adjust the pattern to make it the size that I wanted, so I ended up making my own.  That I remember.  Above is how I pin it on the background fabric.

At this point, a good part of it is finished.  It is all needleturn applique.  Come back later for finished pictures.
