Take a curtain......

and make some placemats.

 I slit the curtain panel lengthwise in half.  I loaded top and bottom onto my longarm with batting and quilted.

 I cut the quilted piece into 4 ovals and I still have some left for a topper of some kind. When my friend decides to leave the sun,sand, and fish tacos (I'm dreaming again), then she'll let me know what size topper she wants.

 I then made a bias binding cutting 2 1/4" strips.  That's a little narrower than quilt binding.

And now there are 4 nice, new, out of old, placemats

Eloise is playing the guitar. And singing Away in a Manger.  It's her favorite song right now.

Carolyn's Quilt

This has a native American theme.

 Are these waves that I did to go with the fish? or undercurrents in the water?

 I like the focus fabric.  The colors are great.

Eloise really enjoys the story of the birth of Jesus.  The baby Jesus born in a manger.  Her favorite song right now is "Away in a Manger".  Here she is enjoying the nativity scene very large and up close.

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Iris Applique

We went away for a few days over Christmas.  This was my time for working on the iris applique quilt.

The start of it was on my last weekend away with my husband.

For a couple of Sundays, during football games (GO SEAHAWKS!!!) I was cutting out about 300 peices for this quilt and put them in numerical order into bags.

 You can see my lunchbox that I keep the project in. Cute, isn't it?

 There are several small appliques along the sides.  You can see I have a missing piece.  It wasn't in it's proper spot, but I'm sure I'll find it later.  I would get 9's and 6's mixed up and sometime the top of a 7 would get cut off, so it looks like a 1.  Oh, well.....

 This is the start of the center applique.  The quilt has two large pieces that you seam down the center.  I'm going to wait til it's mostly done to do that. It makes it easier to work with.

Sheri's Quilt

I really like the circles inside the squares.

 She has a minky for the backing.  With stretchy fabrics it's good to remember to have the stretch go across the machine and also loosen up the rollers on the backing a bit so there isn't puffiness once it's quilted.   I've learned from my mistakes. This one  quilted up nicely.

My new shawl

This shawl was very fun to do.  Probably because I am really enjoying lace projects.  This was the project I decided to take this summer on my trip to Europe.  I uses a lace yarn, so it doesn't take up much room in the suitcase.

 It started at the center of the straight edge with only about 6 or 8 stitches and grows with every row.

 At one point the rows were so large that it took all evening to get only 2 or 3 rows done.

 I love the design.  I used an alpaca, silk blend yarn called elderberry.

I grew up with elderberry bushes.  We used to make pies from them.

From August to December?  Well, I did put it aside at one point to work on other projects.

We woke up to snow  this morning.  Eloise knows what to do with it.  Make snowballs and throw them.
It was fun to watch her.

Gail's quilt

This is a simple quilt but unique in that it has fabric from Africa. I really like that fabric. I was looking through African designs and decided that twirls are African so that is what I did. 

Flowers- Provence Tablerunner

Looking through my fabrics the other day, I came across this fabric that I bought in Provence this summer. We were in one of the hilltop villages that had a very cute shop full of quilts and linens.  They also sold some fabric which is where I bought this. You can see it in the back as the woman is getting ready to cut it.

 They had beautiful quilts for inexpensive prices.  The woman who owns this shop sews all winter and sells all summer.

When I was perusing that other day, I thought it could also look like Christmas, so I made it up really fast to put in our shop. But it could also go all year round.

 I love this fabric.  I  think I'll have to make one for me from this also.

 

Ank you ask - what is a hilltop village?

There are many of these in a part of Provence, dotted throughout the countryside.

Naomi's Doily #12

I'm moving slowly in getting Naomi's (was it 26?) doilies crocheted.  I'll have to check with Diana B. and see how many it was.
This is small and fast.  It took me 2 evenings.

 It was crocheted with a #20 thread which is a thinner thread than the normal crochet thread which is a #10.  Therefore it took a smaller hook, but not too small. And like a lot of doilies it is pineapples.  I like the pineapple designs.

Snack mats

I've done mug rugs, but for little ones they are snack mats. 

I made Eloise a couple that she can share with her friends at school.

This was fabric I found in my stash and seemed perfect for young girls that go to school with their mom.

Eloise's New Cozy Sweater

Eloise's mom saw a sweater in a store, took a picture of it and asked me if I could make it. The picture was a white sweater and she chose a burgundy color.

 I used a Knit-Picks yarn that is a washable wool.  That makes for easier care for a young mom.  It is also very soft.

 I think she had enough of the hood.

 I used a pattern that looked like the right style and worked out the detail of the design.  Instead of a stockinette stitch, I did 2 purl rows and the 2 knit rows and alternated the whole way.  It made it stretchier like a rib, so I blocked the back and saw it was too long, ripped out some of it and redid it according to the blocked size.

 

 I added these crocheted flowers.  They are a cute touch.

 

 Juliet is wearing a hand-me-down that I have made.  I wonder if she'll get any new sweater from me.

Marlene's Quilt

A lovely small quilt for the season.

It's hard to see the quilting, so you have to look close.

 These corners have holly leaves and berries that match the sashing.
