Hawaiian Turtles

My finish this week is the turtle wallhanging that I appliqued in Hawaii.  When one goes to Hawaii and is a  quilter, one must do an Hawaiian quilt.

It is officially called "A Herd of Turtles" and the pattern can be purchased here.

This was very fun and easy to do.  Since it was my second time doing it, I had all the freezer paper patterns all made ahead of time.

This is the back side.  I bought the fabric in Hawaii to go on the back.

I made waves in the water.

And pebbled the blue on the turtle shell.

Stems and Leaves - The Red and White Quilt

I design as I go.  I laid my paper flowers on the  quilt and decided on the placement of my stems and leaves. And now that applique is happening.

I'm still making decisions on the colors of the flowers.  I keep going through new ideas.  We'll see how that comes out.

Helen's Quilt

Helen sewed this up and is very excited to give it away.

I did leaves on it.  She had a thick batting so it is very fluffy.

This Week's House Block

This is the pin that I got this week's idea from.  A lot of little rough edges need trimmed yet.

Watering Can Flowers

This is the first appliqué on my red and white quilt that I've completed. I do like turquoise against red and I enjoyed doing these flowers.

Quilt Festival Entry #2 - Little Tulips

This year we are allowed to enter 2 quilts into the Festival at Amy's Creative Side.  This is my second and a very small entry it is.

This is one out of a magazine that I gave away after this project was done.  I figured I had done everything in it that I wanted to do.  Now I wish I had at least made a copy of this pattern, because I'd like to do it again in other colors.  Maybe I'll figure it out.

It is a paper pieced project which is not my forte.  But it is good practice.  I did have a lot of ripping out.

Here is some of it coming together.

And a closer look.  The piece is 12" x 18" - very small.

I have several posts in February on this piece.

Check out the other entries here.

Blogger's Quilt Festival Entry - Violets Quilt

This is one I made for a friend of mine.  She had a baby she named Violet and so it had to be Violet.
As is my course, I am not original.  I get all my ideas from somewhere.  This is one I pinned and wanted to try with some changes.

A friend of mine did the embroidery.

You can go to this post and this post to see progress.  I did learn some things about sewing strips to keep them from getting all skewed.  I couldn't figure out why sewing straight strips wouldn't come out straight.  It's all to do with pinning so the top fabric doesn't pull more than the bottom fabric.  Ho,ho, now I know.

 Here's Violet on her quilt.

And here's the quilt festival link.  Stop by and enjoy all the quilts.

It's Bananas Today

I am building a playhouse.  And I do have a kitchen set my dad made for my oldest daughter when she was around 4.  We will paint it and fix it up to put in the playhouse.  Then there will be a play kitchen for all this play food that I'm making.  That's my plan.
The next food is bananas.

The tutorial for the banana is found here.

The tutorial for the slices are found here.
It's so nice to find good tutorials for this food.
Juliet thought she could really eat it.  She put it all in her mouth but it came out again.

Eloise has fun playing with her dishes and food.

The banana even comes out of the peel.

Carolyn's Quilt

Carolyn has a lovely tree quilt.  I think it signifies the Northwest very well.

Since it was trees, she wanted me to do an allover with trees.  Here's a view from the back.

Barning Along

Lori Holt has had her quilty barn along.  These are lovely barns with a quilted square on the side just like the barns you'll find all over the midwest.  And then at Pleasant Home, Jodi made this quilt with blacks and greys. So for this picnic square I  took those ideas.  Lori's block is 14" but mine could only be 12".  I found a house block similar on EQ and customized it for my square.  I like how it came out.  My quilting is not perfect, but I go for fun more than accuracy, although I am working at better accuracy.  I did do some ripping out to get it better.  I love the pop of color in the square.

Spring is here.  I love the flowers of spring. Lilacs are a favorite.  The smell is so wonderful and the colors gorgeous.  We picked several bouquets and had them spread throughout the house.

And the bushes out my back door.  So beautiful.

Dinner Today - Felted Carrots

I couldn't let the girls just eat sweet cupcakes.  They also need to learn about healthy food.  So I made them some carrots.

These were very fun and easy to put together.  The girls are enjoying them.  Juliet even thinks she can really eat them.  Free instructions are provided here.

Teri's quilt

A baby quilt. Very nice.

It has lots of paisley so it seemed feathers go well.
