SunBonnet Sue - Falling Leaves

I use freezer paper templates and cut the fabric a small 1/4" larger than the template.  Here I've got them laid out on the muslin that I drew on.

The New Giant Dishcloth

Well, maybe they're not that giant, but they are bigger than the ones I've done before.  I think knitted dishcloths are the best cloth going.  They have texture and they have elasticity.  And these are white, white, white so they can be bleached.  You can feel your dishes getting clean.  

So much for the commercial.

I'm doing these for a customer.  It's her stocking stuffer.

They are 10" which isn't really extra large, but the others that I've done have always been 8".

Give Us This Day

The Lord's Prayer says, Give us this day our daily bread.

According to Martin Luther's Small Catechism,

What does this mean?  God gives daily bread indeed without our prayer, also to all the wicked; but we pray in this petition that He would lead us to know it, and to receive our daily bread with thanksgiving.

What is meant by daily bread?  Everything that belongs to the support and want of the body, such as food, drink, clothing, shoes, house, home,

field, cattle, money, goods, a pious spouse, pious children,

  

pious servants, pious and faithful rulers, good government, good weather, peace, health, discipline, honor, good friends, faithful neighbors, and the like.

We have much to be thankful for.

Pauletta's Quilt

This quilt seems to be a lovely color that went along with the snow outside.  At least that's what I thought while quilting it.  The color is subtle and nice.

 I quilted it similar to the last one with feathers and twirls etc., doing some variations of it.  I like doing that kind of design.  It goes with quilts that can be feminine but not to feminine, especially if you're not sure who the quilt is going to.

The 3rd Sneak Peak Revealed

Leah, you were right.  It is a sleeve.  But it's not a little sweater.  It 's the largest sweater I've done in over 20 years.  The first one was not good.

But this one fits Naomi just fine and she likes it also.  That's a miracle in itself.

This sweater is  made from an alpaca yarn.  Details can be found on Ravelry.

The 2nd Sneak Peak

Bev, you had a correct guess.  When you come out here I'll give you a prize.  After all there is a wedding coming up sometime.

The 2nd sneak peak was a Sunbonnet Sue.  I am appliqueing squares for a customer.  She sends me the fabric and I do the square she wants done with it. This one is Sue with a basket of flowers.

 This is the original quilt square that I made -maybe around ten years ago - of the same quilt.  As I do each square, I'll show you mine along with Pam's.  And maybe she'll send me a pic of the whole quilt when she's done.  Same squares, 2 different looks.  That's how quilts are, aren't they.

 It's still snowing.



And we have new neighbors (my son and his family).

Let It Snow

It's snowing right now.  When it comes to the Pacific Northwest you have to appreciate it when it's here, because we don't get it often.  We may not get more this year.

But I like it.  The white and the silence it creates.  It has a glow at night.

I did grow up with snow, so I know it can turn black and slushy, but I'll take it the way it is right now.

The blur in front of the trees is the snow falling.

More Baby Fashion

Meet Elisabeth. She's Eloise's cousin.

She's a little older than Eloise, therefore larger.  Eloise has to be protected from her.

 Maybe when they're about 2 they will be more equal.   They will learn giving and forgiving through candy and toys, etc. which will help them to become friends. Since Eloise is moving next door to me this weekend, I'm sure Elisabeth will get to know me also.  I'm sure we will see a lot of each other.

 Elisabeth is wearing a sweater I made, sneak peak #1.

This photo and the next shows off the crocheted picot edging on the sleeve and the collar.

 It's a Sirdar pattern and I knitted it with a KnitPicks yarn, comfy sport which is the softest cotton that I know.  I use it most of the time anymore. Check it out here on Ravelry.

 I am so thankful that I have a large extended family and Elisabeth is part of it.

More of Eloise

How can I stop?  She is just the cutest baby.  And when her mom dresses her in things I made for her, I get the chance to show her off to you.

This is the first daygown that I made.  I made it a little smaller than the pattern, to fit her preemie size.

She's popping an eye open here.  That doesn't happen a lot.

Aren't those tights cute.  They look like little shoes.

I love her little moves.

The sleeves have a ribbon.  It makes the dress look a little elegant

Time for a Change

These are the valances I've had hanging in my kitchen for the last three years. I love grapes and the wine country feel.  But picking things out to make a room look good is very difficult for me.  So I went somewhat muted.

 

 

My mother-in-law who takes tour groups to France picks up for me the French fabrics that I use in tablerunners.  I love those fabrics.  One of them that I've had for a while is this.

 

 I love the colors and design, but didn't know how to use it.  Then one day, I wanted a change in my kitchen and that seemed the perfect fabric to use.  Therefore the new valances.

 I used these sunflower buttons for the tabs.  Sunflowers are French.

 And they go with my colored lights.

 

My husband really likes them.  I have some children that don't really like them.  What do you think?

One thing about valances they aren't expensive and easy to change out.  I'll keep the old ones for a change.  Maybe I'll make some for the different seasons also, who knows?

Old Fashioned Baby Daygown

The newest thing I'm enjoying learning and doing (do I really need another new thing to do?) is making daygowns.  I got intrigued when I saw the  this blog and their website.  I bought a couple of things from them and away I go.   I started with this gown which had its challenges.  Now I've advanced myself whether I'm ready or not. 

  First was the embroidery. I traced a pattern with my water soluble blue marker.

 All finished and washed out . Not bad, eh?

 Next, the smocking.  I wanted to smock this one, but I've never put anything through my pleater with a slant.  I had to take out some pleats on one side to slant it.  This is one thing I'll have to get help from Martha, my local smocker.  I also think I may have figured it out, so I will also give it a try.  But I'm sure glad there's someone in town to help me.

So the smocking isn't as good as I would like it to be. It's not professional, but a good practice piece.

 See the whole daygown. Or I guess you could call it a long dress. It's meant to keep a baby warm down over their feet.  This dress is made from a Kona cotton.  It has a very nice feel to it.  I shirred the sleeves to add the gathering.  (You're not supposed to do that in old-fashioned gowns).  I also French seamed everything.

Someday I'll try entredeux. 

I am excited to keep trying and improving on these.  Does any baby wear daygowns these days?
