Love Entwined - Heart's Desire Block 3

It's finished.  In fact all three of them are.  It is the third mystery block of Esther's BOM that I'm doing.

I did them assembly line fashion.  It makes thinking a lot easier to do the same thing over until it's done.  At least for me that's how it works.  It did take some time though. And I wish I had done my inner circle with a template.  It would look smoother.  But, in general, I'm very happy with  them.  I'm excited to see what comes next.

Ode to the 30's BOM

This is my newest block in this quilt.  I did most of it at my quilt guild yesterday.  Of course, I forgot to bring my yellow so I finished it up quickly at home.  I was very glad to have to Flying Geese in this one.  But I did sew things backwards and wrong to right etc.  So I did have some ripping out.  I hope to start working on this quilt more at home, as we are only doing 12 of the blocks in my guild.

My Contest Win

I've been very excited about the book Laura Wasilowski  has put out.  She has had several interviews on blogs that are advertising it and showing bits and pieces of it.  It is Fanciful Stitches, Colorful Quilts.  It's all about houses.  I love houses.

 

 I've entered the drawing on several blog sites but at Susan's blog I actually won a copy of the book.

You can go to Laura's blog and going through past posts and visiting the other blogs she links to you can see many of the projects.  When I've done one I will post it for all to see.  Hopefully it won't take me too long.

Planting My Pots

I've gone shopping several times in the past week for different plants.  I was especially looking for ones that I could put into spare pots that I have sitting around.

I received 2 self-watering pots for my birthday.  I never had any of these before so we'll see how they work. This one has an African Violet.  My grandmother used to have lots of these flowers sitting in her kitchen window sill.  She loved caring for them, I think, especially when she was older and didn't have a garden anymore.

This one is sitting on my porch.  It is a New Guinea Impatiens.

I bought other annuals that are favorites of mine, but get expensive if you get a lot to put in the ground.  So I thought I'd try them in pots.

Begonia

And this Gerbera Daisy that I put into this potted arrangement that I already had.

We also made hanging baskets for our porch.  I usually do petunias but was ready this year to try something a little more extravagant.  I got a recipe from BH&G and went to my local nursery.  They did not have those plants but showed me substitutes.  I got my geraniums for half price because the flowers were dying.  The plant itself looked great though.  I spent $30 per basket and have 8 of them.  It got spendy.  I thought maybe next year I could do just as well buying them already planted.  Hopefully they'll look great when they are full and blooming.

I also got some herbs.  I already have chives and oregano and this one.  I don't know what it is.

 This is my new rosemary.  My old ones died.

 Thyme

and Pineapple Sage

I have basil seeds started in a pot in the house.

I also got several flats of annuals to plant outside around the house.  Impatiens for the north side and petunias for the south side.

Hopefully, I 'll be able to show you pics later of lots of blooms.

Here is one great bloom.  She is getting cuter every day.  Look how well she sits up now.  She was out enjoying the nice weather yesterday and getting a good look around.

Soft, Cuddly Blankets

I sewed up these blankets for a friend that just had a baby.  She saw the ones I had made for Eloise and said she wanted some also.  See that rose print in the back.  That is especially her style.

They are cotton on the outside but a soft fluffy chenille? on the inside. It comes from Joann's.

I first did these when we had our store on our porch.  They were a popular item.

I hadn't done any more until Eloise's.  And then I made some bright ones for our store now.  I saw  these fabrics and had to buy them.  I think I'm attracted to bright fabrics.  I know they should be used for children's quilts but I have a hard time cutting up prints like these.

And here's a lovely dark brown for future blankets.

Makena Beach - A Time Lapse Video

My son Jordan shot this footage when we were in Hawaii and put the shots together to make this movie.

It is shot with HDR (if you know what that is) and is a time lapse.  Some of it even has a split screen where the sky is time-lapse and the water is normal movement.

It's a great movie.
