Vacationing in Chelan

Some of us in our family went on vacation to Eastern Washington last week.  Our family is getting old enough where it is hard to get everyone together for a vacation what with honeymoon's etc. We started with 2 children and more joined us as we went.
We met up with friends as we got into town and they took us on their boat.  What a start of a trip.
This is the sunset over Lake Chelan.

We met up with other friends at the waterslides.

 Racing down the slides.

Playing in the lake.

 And in the pool

Sitting around just being with our friends.  This wasn't planned.  They just happened to be staying at the same place we were and overlapped us a couple of days. It was very nice.
Notice how the men and the women are having their separate conversations.

My married couple having fun racing.

There was also a quilt shop in town.  I couldn't pass that up.

And a yarn shop

I even worked on a project and didn't do too shabbily with it.  Stems for applique.

And the flowers and leaves added.  This is part of a quilt I'm making for my newlyweds, Joe and Sarah.
You will be seeing more as it comes along.

Flowers on the Steps - My Red and White Quilt Finished

I decided to call it Flowers on the Steps because that's what it looks like, with some birds hanging around.

It's pretty much a scrappy quilt except for the background.

The Beginning of Love Entwined

I'm going to have surgery on my foot at the end of this month and won't be doing much walking for 8 weeks after as I won't be able to put any weight on that foot.  So I'm making sit down plans, like applique.
I decided maybe it would be a good time to do the quilt that Esther is offering on her blog.  It's gorgeous and lots of applique.

This first part I paper pieced instead of applique.  That looked like it could easily be done and was.  Then I appliqued the center circle on top.  Now will come the tiny circles.  Hmmm.....  I'm not sure how I'll do those yet.
I picked my main colors, turquoise and coral/peach.  I'm using as much from my stash as I can, and of course I bought a few more.

This quilt will be a challenge and I'm not sure if I'll go the whole way, but then you never know.

Newborn Stocking Cap

This hat was knitted for a customer that just adopted a baby boy.  He was 6# so Clara was the perfect size for a fitting.

I  really like the long tail.

A Wedding

Today is WIP day and I think that marriages are always a work in progress, so this post is about a new marriage that is now a WIP.
Saturday, my son Joseph married a wonderful girl, Sarah.
Joseph served 7 years for Sarah, and it was but a day for the love he had for her.
This is a 7 year story.

In the Bible, the book of Nehemiah, the Israelites were rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem.  Each family had a place on the wall.  They had a sword in one hand to fight off the enemy and a tool in the other hand for building.  That is our lives with the families in the church we are building in.
The groomsmen with a sword and a tool in each hand.  Tools for everyday building.  One man even had a diaper bag.

The flower girls.  My granddaughter Eloise and her cousin Elizabeth.  Eloise is Joseph's niece and Lizzie is Sarah's niece.  But the girls are also cousins.  Get that one?

Happily married!

 The cutting of the cake

 The Beatles even showed up.

Joe and Sarah dance. Her middle name is Michelle and the song was Michelle.

Batiking It

A woman gave my quilt guild quite a few quilt kits that she had and I guess wasn't going to use.  We are going to sell those kits to make money for the guild, but one kit I took home to put together because it would make a nice teen quilt for a foster grad.  So that's what this is.

This quilt has lots of lovely batiks.  I always enjoy batiks.   I cut a lot of 6 1/2" squares.

And then I made a lot of simple log cabins.  This quilt is totally scrappy with the given batiks.

Put them together and this is the start of the look.
It's a great quilt to keep close to my sewing machine and work on when I have just a few minutes.  No concentration or planning, just pick it up when there's time and it comes along.

Iris Applique Quilt

This  quilt is off my quilting frame, all bound, and even washed.

This kit was given to me by a customer who decided she would never end up sewing this quilt.

I love applique, so it was a great project for me.

I even discovered I had a magazine that sold the kit.  The kit was selling in 1980.

You can see the blue dots on the quilt did not wash out.  Is it because it's old?

I changed the quilting a little.  I scribbled in the crosshatches to make things stand out more and added lines to the straight lines for the same reason.
