Maui Fun and Sun

The pics tell it. My project is turtles. I do it on my lanai. I knit at the pool. I play with the granddaughters at the beach. It is a lot of fun. Relaxation. We are not sightseers. We do nothing.

Let Us Go A'sailin'

This is a quilt that I quilted for my quilt guild.  It's definately a boy quilt.

Ships in a storm in the more plain blocks.

Here's some more practice with my curved rulers.  And a mariners compass also.

The back side.

Eloise helps me with this quilt.  She actually helps me with every quilt.

Time for Tea and Cupcakes

Yes, Eloise and I are getting ready for a tea party.  This time the cupcakes aren't real, but felt.  But that means they can last and last and Eloise can have them whenever she wants and won't get fat either.  Of course when Juliet saw them, she wanted them in her mouth right away and I had to keep them from her.  She didn't like that.

 Look Granmma, it's ready!!!

 Let's get that paper off.

 How yummy can that be?

Here's the whole set.  A tutorial at Smashed Peas and Carrots is here for the cupcake and the yellow frosting.

For the rest of them, I just looked at pictures and came up with the idea of how to do them.  Some pics were real cupcakes, some were other felt ones.

Today I may try carrots.  That's a little healthier.  It seems I am on a felt food kick.

Juliet Turns 1

 Happy Birthday Juliet!

Big sister Eloise gets in on the action.  She is a helper.

Eloise made Juliet a taggy blanket.  She had lots of help from her Mom, but she is learning how to guide the fabric and all the machine parts.

I made her an apron.  She's not real excited about it right now.  In fact, she didn't want anything to do with it, but I know when she's walking and wants to help mom, she'll be happy to have it.

Here's a link to the pattern.  I cut it down quite a ways to fit Juliet. I made the same one for Eloise here.  I love the fabric in it.

Eggs for Breakfast?

Yes, this morning it's eggs.  Eloise has been having fun with my new pots and pans I received for my birthday.  I'm intending to put them in my playhouse when it's ready.  But in the meantime, she is always cooking eggs.  So I made her some felt eggs.

She can pick them up with her hands.  That's not what I'd do with mine.

Her friend Isabella is helping her cook.

Iris Applique Quilt

Sometimes women will give me projects that they know they'll never get around to doing.  And so they figure that I'll get it done.  And I usually do.  This one was an Iris applique  quilt that is a kit.  The fabric is all printed on and I just had to cut and sew.  Here's a link to one of my beginning days of it in December.
During football season I would work on it Sunday afternoons during the game, and I figured I had better keep it up even after football season ended so that the  quilt would get done. It's been my Sunday afternoon project for a while now.
And the applique is completed.

If you look close, you can see the quilting lines drawn on the quilt.  I will use the swirls and feathers, but probably do some close quilting around the applique so it all stands out more.

It's garden time again.  We teach Eloise more than just sewing and cooking.  She is also learning to garden.  She will be a very accomplished young woman in a few years.  Now she is a little girl and enjoying it very much.

A Little Church

This week's block that I made for my guild picnic.  It is very simple. Took hardly any time at all.
I do see one line I need to sew on for the church building.  It's good to take pictures of your project. You see it from a different perspective.

 Now it's fixed and better.

The Red and White Squares Get Put Together.

Here they are on my moveable design wall.  I can take the wall down and fold it up or keep it up for a while. It beats the floor by a long shot, even though it's not perfect.
The squares are put together and this is the rough, rough draft for the applique.
My inspiration is this pin.  The original source doesn't give the name of the quilter or quilt but she does look very pleased and I know it has gotten pinned quite a bit.

This is the rough draft.  You can see my paper has more definition to it.

This is a shot with ideas for fabrics. It is also very rough and will be changed some.

Last two red and white blocks

I have all the blocks for this quilt finished, but its far from being finished .  You'll just have to watch and see what happens.
Both of these blocks are Civil War blocks.  The first is Union Square.

And this one is Railroad Crossing.

And these are a few of my birthday presents.  I turned 60 yesterday.  Can you tell I'm a grandmother?  I can't wait to examine them more thoroughly with Eloise.  Most are from her.

A pic of 2 of my daughters and Eloise at my birthday party.  We went to a very nice restaurant in town. It was great.

Most of us.  This pic is missing 2 of my sons that were not able to come.

Little Pink House

This is the third block I've made for my quilt guild picnic in June.  It's a pretty cute one.  This is the pin I used as my inspiration.  It doesn't show up on the original site.

I used lace and ric-rac on this one.  I didn't use buttons and all the little 3-D things that the original had.  This is going to be on a  quilt used possibly by children.

 It even has a banner.

 It was pretty fun.

Back to the Farm

It's been a while since I've posted about my farm quilt.
That is because I've done very little on it.  And what I have done is little.
I actually made the tractor and trailer.  The person on the tractor doesn't have hair or a hat yet.  Should that be me.  I drove tractor for the haying at 10 years old and got ousted a couple of years later by my younger brother.  Threadwork is coming also.

Apples on the trees and even a basket and ladder.

My dad is bringing the cow to milk from the pasture on the other side of the driveway.  Or maybe it's a cow that got out and we all had to get out there to put her back in.

You can see the corn crib and tractor shed behind the barn.  That is real rough right now.  I haven't fused most of this down yet.  Just want to be sure of my layout.
Don't pay attention to the garden.  It's not really done at all yet.
