Shelley's Quilt

A cute and very nicely done baby quilt.  I did a stipple on this one.

Ohio Rose, Juliet Rose, and Eloise Joy

This is another square that I finished for my quilt guild. It is the Ohio Rose. You can see the last one that I did here.

Eloise really enjoys her little sister Juliet.
You can see more of these sweet girls here.

A brand-new granddaughter

Meet  Juliet Rose.
She was born yesterday and is very beautiful.

Big sister Eloise is kissing Juliet.

And she loves to give her dad a nice kiss also.

Lo, children are a heritage of the LORD:

and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
  As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man;

so are children of the youth.
Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them:

they shall not be ashamed,
but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.   Psalm 127.3-5

Wild Rose

My  quilt guild was giving away packets of fabrics to make squares that we would put together for charity quilts.  I'm always attacted to large flower prints, so this is the packet that I took.

And this is the first square I made.  I think I will stick to this type of applique, so I should get many squares out of this packet.  The rules are 12" finished square and use at least 4 of the fabrics in each one.  That shouldn't be too hard.
This is a Wild Rose.

Carol's quilt

Want to cuddle under something soft and warm?  This is it.

A boy or man wouldn't have trouble with this one.  I did a stipple that is elongated.  I wanted to change from the normal one.  I do need variety in my life.

New Smocking

I'm trying my hand at smocking again.  Each time I try it gets better.

It's a new dress.  It could be a jumper or a sundress.

Instead of waving, I just did a longer straight stitch.

I am really enjoying doing this.

Napkins

When my family was young, I always used cloth napkins at dinner.  I had labeled napkin rings for each person, so that we wouldn't have to wash them every day.  I don't even know that all the children would wipe their mouths when done, so they're napkins might very well have been clean except for the crumbs on their lap.
As our family got older, we had varied schedules and eating together didn't happen often.  Cloth napkins left the scene.
When we moved into our new house a few years ago, we made it a habit to start eating together again.  At least we had a set time for dinner, and the ones that can make it are there.  Sometimes it's only my husband and I, but many times it's at least most of us.  Paper napkins, if they made it to the table in their stand-up container was the thing now.

So now we are trying to get back into cloth napkins. They are so much nicer than paper ones.  I found these on Purl-Bee  and thought they were so cute,  I had to give them a  try.  I did the brown ones first and now I'm doing the green.  The brown are 18" and the green are a little over 20".  The bigger the better.

I also did the binding a different way, more like a quilt binding.  It does make the edge a little thicker, but as I didn't have a bias maker that size, it just saved a lot of time for the amount of napkins I did.  I did use 2" strips instead of 2 1/2" for the binding.

Like those napkin rings?   I bought them in Hawaii quite a few years ago.  They are fragile and I don't have many left, but they were a nice try.

Vintage Baby Quilt Progress

I have the sashing sewn onto all the squares.  I won't sew the whole thing together until I know who gets it as there is a blank square that is perfect for some embroidery of the name of the baby.  So it may be one I put away for a little while.

Eloise is petting a baby chick.  She is still a little wary and stands back from the box to look in, but when she wants to pet one, she sits down and you know it's time to get one to let her give one pet.  That's all, no more.

Shadow Trapunto - New Wedding Quilt

The design as it's drawn.

And now it's on the batiste.  I used a drapery batiste as it has some body to it , but is still semi-opaque.

I sewed the batting onto the batiste using my longarm.  It makes the process go quickly.

Cutting takes time.  And I must remember to go slow and let it take a long time.  I don't want cuts in the batiste.

 The edge.

We have a small farm - new baby chicks.  I can't wait to see Eloise hold one.

You can also check out my other small farm (the small quilt I made) on Laura's Blog.  She's also giving away a free book.

Do You Ride a Velocipede?

I am fascinated by that word as I started a new baby quilt that uses it for the letter V.

It's a vintage look alphabet quilt.

I don't know what baby it's for yet, but there are several I could make it for, including a grandchild on the way,  so we'll have to see.

Here are some of the sashing fabrics.  It's American Jane by Moda.

It even came with a lunch box.  This is the first kit I've ever bought, so that's new for me.  We found it in a little quilt shop in an out of the way little town going towards the mountains.  I think the town was Buckley.  It's amazing the shops that can be in little towns that seem to go nowhere.
