Give Us This Day

The Lord's Prayer says, Give us this day our daily bread.

According to Martin Luther's Small Catechism,
What does this mean?  God gives daily bread indeed without our prayer, also to all the wicked; but we pray in this petition that He would lead us to know it, and to receive our daily bread with thanksgiving.

What is meant by daily bread?  Everything that belongs to the support and want of the body, such as food, drink, clothing, shoes, house, home,

field, cattle, money, goods, a pious spouse, pious children,

pious servants, pious and faithful rulers, good government, good weather, peace, health, discipline, honor, good friends, faithful neighbors, and the like.

We have much to be thankful for.

  1. Lovely reminder, thank you. Keep meaning to tell you, I usually blog surf on my iPad, but I can't get into the Bella Jean link as the doesn't support flash. Just thought I'd let you know in case you are missing iPad customers :-)

  2. I always love that petition and its meaning in Luther's Catechism. It is for OUR SAKE that we give thanks, that we would know from where all of our daily blessings flow, which includes food, but also so much more!
It looks like you had quite a party at your house.
Oh, and I like the four medium sized pumpkin cheesecakes on the platter - great idea!
